for Line Cord AC Power Protectors
Why use Professionally Engineered
AC Power Line
Protectors ?
|
Hi-Tech Equipment plugged into Commercial Power outlets require
2 protection levels
1. Hi-Performance, ultra fast transient, spikes and surge suppressors
2. Wide Band, hi-attenuation electrical noise interference filters
Why?
Equipment damage is the most serious and noticeable effect of spikes & surges. Damage may range from moderate to severe. Immediate consequences depend on value of equipment damaged and the value placed upon that equipment being in continuous service.
Often unnoticed is the long term performance deterioration spikes & surges cause in equipment. Each time severe spikes or surges enter equipment, some delicate components may suffer slight degradation. Over time, this cumulative degradation takes its toll, leaving equipment performing in a sub-standard manner - eventually leading to system failure.
In some instances, spikes & surges may find their way into critical operating circuitry. Computer digital circuits may receive false data, causing errors and disruptions. Audio digital circuitry may generate disturbing sound bursts or unit commands. Alarms, security monitors, business machines, scanners or other gear may exhibit erratic, hard to identify behavior.
Interference is aptly named. The name came from the earliest days of radio when so-called static from various sources "interfered" with radio reception. This concept carried forward to television and ultimately to computers.
Interference may cause erratic program operation; or it might cause errors in data processing (we've all heard the old anecdote of a $1,000,000 check being issued for a $1 refund).
In imaging - erratic, undesired color shifts might occur. Communication may be disrupted or completely unintelligible.
Where does interference originate ?
The short answer is: from the same place that spikes / surges come from - Lightning and man-made electrical equipment noise. Actually, Spikes and noise are very similar in nature; main difference being that Spikes are very much larger.
But there are other types of interference as well.
Radio stations, cellular phones, Citizen's Band and police radio, small office or household appliances, fluorescent lights, loose electrical connections, defective AC Power plugs, cords or sockets are among the many sources of electrical interference.
While many interference sources may wreck havoc on a continuous basis, some sources are intermittent. In addition to time variation of fixed interference sources, there is the added problem of mobile interference from radios, vehicle ignition noise, and other electronic contraptions traveling the highways.
What to do?
1. Hi-Performance, ultra fast transient, spikes and surge suppressors for AC Power Protection
There are countless AC Power "surge" or "spike" suppressers on the market. Some are little more than extension cords. Look for units that provide at least 50,000 Surge Amp suppression capability. Many cheaper units provide only 4,500 or 6,500 Surge Amp suppression. (Units with low protection generally don't indicate Protection Levels on the label - Even some medium protection levels do not indicate surge absorption abilities) Naturally, the higher the Surge Amp capability, the more protection is afforded to your equipment. Electronic Specialists suppressers all have 58,500 (or more) Surge Amp suppression.
Additionally, high speed response to invading transients, spikes and surges should be provided for an effective suppressor system design. Many thyrister motor controllers inject sub-nanosecond spikes on power lines. These extremely fast spikes arrive, do their damage and are gone before high power suppressors begin suppression action.
Electronic Specialists protection equipment has 1 pico-second suppressors to arrest these ultra-fast culprits
2. Wide Band, hi-attenuation electrical noise interference filters
Two approaches are usually taken for interference control.
A. Apply suitable preventative measures to the interference source. Of course, to accomplish this, the interference source must be identified.
A good first step is to ensure regular, thorough electrical maintenance of equipment suspected of being the interference source. Be certain all electrical connections are securely tightened.
If quite certain this is the interference source, install suitable filtering and suppression to bring the interference under control. Usually a single socket (Industrial Grade) stand-alone power line filter-suppressor or a wire-in filter-suppressor solves the problem.
Unfortunately, it is often difficult, or impossible, to either identify the interference source. If identified, access to the offending culprit is often unavailable or denied. Fortunately, there is a second line of defense, as outline in the next step.
B. Apply interference control steps at equipment (victim) suffering interference. This is usually the route taken because it is often impossible to isolate or work on the suspected interference source.
Because transients, spikes, surges and interference are generally tightly interlinked Electronic Specialists incorporates their high performance protectors with 3 grades of interference filters - Commercial, Industrial & Laboratory Grades. Since surge / spike equipment damage is the primary concern, ALL our units incorporate extended range protection.
Electronic Specialists Commercial Grade units incorporate a Single Stage interference filter providing an average 55 db attenuation over an interference frequency range of 100 KHz to 250 MHz. Primary application is home or light industrial installations where only a modicum of interference exists. Also used by many as an "insurance policy" to ensure a trouble free installation stays that way.
Our Industrial Grade filter-suppressors incorporate a Dual Stage interference filter providing an average 60 db attenuation over an interference frequency range of 25 KHz to 250 MHz. Generally used for industrial installations where continuous interference is the norm. Often used by lower end audio / video systems to enhance performance.
And our "Top of The Line" Laboratory Grade protectors utilize a Quad Stage interference filter providing an average 65 db attenuation over an interference frequency range of 10 KHz to 250 MHz. Often used industrially where severe interference levels are routinely encountered.
Conclusion
For REAL High Tech equipment protection, Electronic Specialists provides both extended range surge / spike suppression for equipment damage control and wide band interference elimination for system disruption control.
That's why professionals who care about their systems' performance . . . . .Choose Electronic Specialists Power Protection
