FILTER ISOLATOR SYSTEMS

Filter Isolator systems are employed when several elements within an operating system interact due to electrical interference created on the common AC Power line by one or more devices in the system.

Typically a problem system might consist of one or more high power devices, several low level sensor circuits and a central processing system. Very often the entire system is powered from within a central operating equipment rack.

It is interesting to note that digital Audio Systems fall within this problem area. Audio enthusiasts regularly report interaction between low level digital reproduction equipment and power amplifiers.

High performance filters placed in power lines feeding each high powered device and each low level sensor effectively isolate devices from each other and from the Power Line. As added insurance, filtering is usually inserted in the central processing system power line.

Of course, heavy duty Industrial type Spike / Surge Suppression should be part of the installation directly at the point AC Power enters the system and splits off to the filters. This ensures spikes generated by high power equipment do not get passed into other system components. Spikes / surges entering from the Power line are also suppressed.

ISOLATION TRANSFORMERS

Isolation Transformer Conditioners are utilized when .....
1. Power line electrical noise (particularly ground circuit noise) severely disrupts equipment performance ........................ or
2. Electrical system ground loop create erratic system performance
.......... or when
3. Operating equipment generates excessive Harmonic Distortion on Power Line

Severe performance disruption requiring Transformer Isolation occurs most often in situations where several (or many) data processing stations are inter-connected. For example, consider a retail store where Point of Sale (POS) equipment connects to a central office computer.

Ancillary heavy duty electrical devices, such as air conditioners or motorized machinery, usually cause or exacerbate the problem.

Although moderately expensive, low power Isolation Transformer Conditioners at the site, or sites, experiencing the problem are usually more cost effective and convenient than attempting to isolate the high power devices suspected of causing the problem.

Occasionally, the offending machinery will cause both power line interference and a Power Line voltage drop which seriously disrupts equipment performance.

In such instances a AC Power Line Regulator-Isolator-Conditioner may be required to provide isolation from Power Line ground, ground loop or line interference and restore line voltage to a suitable operating level.  Harmonic generation will also be reduced.
